Starter Packs

Once you have purchased a microscope and digital camera, there are a number of other items you will require to be able to undertake a full biomass analysis on your own site. If microbiology is new to you, you may not know what equipment you need, or where you can obtain it from. We have put together a starter pack to get you going. This starter pack includes the following items:

• Box of 100 microscope slides, to mount your biomass specimens 
• Box of 100+ cover slips 
• 8 mL immersion oil, for use at x1,000 magnification 
• Box of 100 lens tissues, for removing immersion oil from microscope objectives
• 50 disposable 3ml pipettes, for putting a drop of biomass on the microscope slide 
• Gram stain kit (50 mL of each reagent), for undertaking Gram stain to assist with filamentous bacteria identification 
• Neisser stain kit (50 mL of each reagent), for undertaking Neisser stain to assist with filamentous bacteria identification
